Challenge #1:
Work Within the Budget and Continue the Highest Level of Service.

Order Of Protection Domestic Violence Grants: We have continued to focus attention on responding to domestic violence issues through Grant funding sources. We have received additional equipment and now fund the management of the program and off set the salary for one Detective specializing in domestic incident intervention.

Homeland Security Grants: The times dictate new technology and new equipment. As a result, we have funded a new radio system utilizing Homeland Security Grant money. The Grant funding brought us into compliance without spending any tax dollars.

Digital Photo Conversion: The Sheriff’s Office became a total digital photography Law Enforcement agency with the assistance of State Legislative Grant Awards. Digital images are now archived in our computer system with the incident report files eliminating the expense of film and processing costs. Greater efficiency and security was implemented without any expense to the taxpayer.

911 Center: The entire Center was brought into state of the art compliance under my administration with over $1.5 million dollars secured from the NYS 911 fund. We are able to pinpoint cellular 911 calls with new Computer Aided Dispatch technology that is of the highest quality available. We now also have a fully functional backup center for emergency use. It can operate either independently of the main center or in conjunction with the existing center in times of extreme call load.

Total Computer Hardware Upgrade: All computer systems in the Sheriff’s Office network have been upgraded this year with the funding assistance of a Federal Grant program. This was a necessity due to the aging system’s incompatibility with the new equipment and software changes in the 911 Center and Records Management Systems. This was a $50,000.00 problem solved by applying the proper Grant funding to finance the solution at no cost to the taxpayer.

Jail Board-in Revenue: Due to the hard work, innovative thought and sacrifices of our Custody Staff we turned a boondoggle into a revenue stream that has become a great dividend to the taxpayer. We are averaging over $1.5 Million per year in revenue. This means a nearly 20% savings in the multi million dollar Jail Budget alone!

Sex Offender Registry Act: We have passed local Legislation that empowers the Sheriff to inform the public and vulnerable populations about Level II and Level III sex offenders. The most efficient process computerizes the information. This allows us to continue the updates and inform the public real time via a web-based program. We have the commitment for the funding from Assemblyman Gary Finch for this very important project. Another solution to a serious problem solved at no expense to our local tax base.
