Homeland Security

Counter Terrorism Zone Involvement: The Sheriff’s Office is an integral part of the Homeland Security Network. We are directly connected to the NYS Homeland Security System and are deeply involved in planning and development in our Counter Terrorism Zone. This has been a tremendous benefit to the Sheriff’s Office and community due to the increased level of training and awareness.

Safety & Security Systems Upgrades for the Public Safety Campus: Our entire Public Safety Campus is Homeland Security compliant. There is greater protection for our Custody Division, Law Enforcement Offices and the 911 Center. The entire Public Safety Campus is protected inside and out by pan-tilt-zoom remote control cameras with digital recording. The building access is protected by ID card scanning and pin-code reader technology. This high tech security system was entirely funded by commissions from outgoing inmate phone calls. No taxpayer expense for the purchase or the maintenance of the entire system! This $.2 million upgrade was completed with commissions from outgoing inmate telephone calls.

Equipment Funding: We have secured Homeland Security Grant Funding for Radio System improvements that we would never have been able to afford in our Law Enforcement Budget. We have tapped additional State and Federal sources to upgrade our Surveillance Equipment including: night vision, digital video and digital still photography. These are necessary “state of the art” tools for a progressive Law Enforcement Agency.
