Motor Vehicle Accident Town of Throop North Central Cayuga County
For Immediate Release

Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that the Cayuga County 911 Center received a call on a serious personal injury motor vehicle accident on North Division Street Road just north of the City line at 4:16 PM.

Deputies, Fire/Rescue and Ambulances responded to the scene just inside the Town of Throop north of the City of Auburn.

A northbound semi-tractor trailer operated by: Charles E. Thorpe III 42 years of age of Seneca Street Waterloo, NY was passed by another northbound vehicle: a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck occupied by two subjects: Matthew A. S. Weese 25 years of age of 46 ½ Pine Street, Port Byron, NY and David P. Seal 22 years of age of Savannah, NY. A collision occurred in the northbound traffic lane and the pickup truck left the east side of the roadway traveling down an embankment and overturning one and one-half times. The attempted pass was made in a no passing zone that was clearly marked with double solid lines. The accident action was witnessed by a person operating a third vehicle that was traveling southbound on North Division Street Road.

The occupants of the pickup truck were transported from the scene via ambulance then airlifted to University Hospital in Syracuse. The operator of the Semi-Tractor trailer was not injured. Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives are continuing their investigation via accident reconstruction and interviews to establish who the operator of the pickup was at the time of the incident. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives were assisted at the scene by the Auburn Police Department, Throop Fire/Rescue, Ambulance, Rural Metro Ambulance and Aurelius Fire Department.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 315-253-1222 or the Criminal Investigations Unit’s Detective Sergeant Joe Weeks directly at 315-253-3902.
