RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY ARRESTS
Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that on 06-16-05 Deputies responded to an apartment at 14489 Church St in the Village of Fair Haven to a reported burglary. The resident claimed that his apartment had been entered and jewelry and two handguns had been stolen. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office began an investigation that has lead two three arrests.
On 06-19-05 Detectives received a tip that Ernest F. Ostrom, age 19, of Center Rd Sterling was in possession of a stolen handgun and was in the City of Oswego. With the assistance of the Oswego Police Department, Detectives located Ostrom and arrested him with a handgun in his possession. The handgun was identified as a 40 caliber Glock semi-automatic stolen during the burglary.
On 06-20-05 Detectives interviewed a 15-year-old male from Fair Haven who admitted that he and Ostrom had committed the burglary and stolen the handguns. He also provided information on where the second handgun could be located.
On 06-21-05 Detectives located and interviewed Daniel B. Smith, age 16, of Blind Sodus Bay Rd Red Creek. Smith admitted he was in possession of the second handgun and turned it over to Detectives. This handgun was identified as a 9 MM Jennings semi-automatic.

Ostrom was arrested and arraigned by Oswego City Police Department. He is in the Oswego County Jail on $2500 cash bail. An arrest warrant has been issued for the charges he faces in Cayuga County. Smith was issued an appearance ticket and will reappear in the Sterling Town Court at a later date. The 15 year old was petitioned into Cayuga County Family Court as a juvenile delinquent.
