Drowning Town of Genoa Southern Cayuga County
Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that at 6:45 PM his Deputies responded to a reported Drowning at a farm pond in East Genoa off Route 34 in the Town of Genoa in southern Cayuga County.
The 911 Center received a cellular trunk call at 6:45 PM from a friend of the victim that was with him at the time of the incident. The caller: Jennifer Montalvo stated to Deputies that her friend: Eric Lopez dove into the pond and didn’t come up. There was also a third unidentified person (possibly “Chino”) with Montalvo and the victim at the time of the incident. Genoa Fire and Rescue recovered Lopez who was unresponsive and resuscitation attempts were made and continued as the victim was transported to Auburn Memorial Hospital via Ambulance.
Lopez was pronounced dead at the hospital at 8:26 PM.
Deputies describe the size of the farm pond at Willet Dairy as approximately two acres and as much as seventeen feet deep.
Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives are continuing the investigation securing statements and examining the scene. The Cayuga County Coroner’s Investigator responded to the scene and is continuing his examination at AMH. Detectives need to interview the third person that was identified only as “Chino”.
