FEDERAL CHARGES FILED IN CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE
Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that on Friday, July 22, 2005 Cayuga County Sheriff’s Detective Frederick Cornelius met with Assistant US Attorney Lisa Fletcher who subsequently filed a charge in Federal Court against Joseph N. Musco Jr. A Warrant of Arrest was issued by US Magistrate Judge David E. Peebles charging Musco with the following:
Knowingly transporting and shipping child pornography in interstate or foreign commerce, by means of a computer USC Title 18 Section 2252 A (1)
U.S. Marshalls executed that warrant at the Federal building in Syracuse on Monday, July 25, 2005 and Musco was arraigned thereafter in Federal Court. Musco was ordered detained without bail pending further proceedings. He was returned to the custody of Sheriff’s Deputies and is currently held in the Cayuga County Jail.
Musco was previously arrested by members of the Sheriff’s Office on NYS charges relating to pornography, weapons and drug possession and had been ordered held in lieu of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. Musco is now being held on both State and Federal charges.
Detectives have since confirmed that Musco did in fact work in the Southern Cayuga Central School District as well as the Moravia Central School District as a substitute teacher. We have also discovered that he taught outside of Cayuga County in the Groton, Dryden, Lansing, Ithaca and Candor School Districts since 2002.
The Sheriff asks that anyone with any information they believe would be helpful to the investigation contact the Criminal Investigations Unit directly at the Sheriff’s Office 315-253-1610.
