Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident Route 20 Town of Sennett Resulting in Two Deaths

Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two car motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 20 in the Town of Sennett near the intersection of Beech Road. The incident was called into the Cayuga County 911 Center at 3:42 PM on a 911 wire line trunk.

Preliminary Investigation Discloses as Follows:
A 1995 Pontiac Bonneville operated by David M. Haley 24 years old of 3402 Cherry Valley Turnpike, Marcellus was traveling eastbound on Route 20 when it appears that it veered into the path of a westbound vehicle, a 2000 Buick Regal operated by Doris B. Tucker 86 years old of 3617 Center Street Road, Auburn. Both vehicles spun violently approximately 90 degrees from the nearly head on impact.

Both victims were trapped in their vehicles and were pronounced dead at the scene following life saving attempts by EMS personnel.

Each operator was the lone occupant of their respective vehicles and they were wearing their seat belts. Sennett and Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Departments were later able to extricate the victims via the use of pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.

The Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is utilizing their total stations laser equipment to collect information and document evidence at the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office Deputies and Detectives were assisted at the scene by Cayuga County Coroner Robert Kalet as well as Rural Metro, Saves Ambulance and Mercy Flight.
