Sheriff Rob Outhouse reports that early Thursday morning 12-15-05 two Deputy Sheriffs were on patrol in the Town of Genoa. The two man “A-Line” car was near the intersection of Atwater Road and Bartnick Road when they observed a car travel through the intersection without stopping at the clearly posted stop sign. The violator continued on, turning right onto Hill Road. The pursuing Deputies activated their emergency lights and siren and the operator of the target vehicle failed to heed the signals to stop continuing on without yielding to the police vehicle as required. The violator continued toward Tompkins County and the Tompkins County Sheriff was advised and offered assistance. An off duty Deputy was activated from his home and joined the attempts to apprehend the suspect in his assigned patrol car. Deputies continuing their pursuit observed the operator continue to commit traffic violations including speeding, driving through stop intersections etc. The suspect lost control and spun the vehicle out when they were back on Bartnick Road. When one of the Sheriff’s Patrol cars approached the stopped suspect vehicle the operator accelerated into the Patrol car crashing into the left front end of the car, disabling the Patrol car.
